*** The winners have been announced here! ***

This year at the 2013 Anime Blues Con, the Timid Monster team set up an anime themed photo-booth and asked people to give us their best pose. We got to meet over 200 of the coolest cosplayers ever and they were all nice enough to let us take their picture.

We had so much fun that we’re going to keep the party going; we’re giving away a Timid Monster Prize Package to the best, the funniest, the most authentic, and the most helpful cosplayers we met this weekend.

Here’s How it Works:

Browse the 2013 Anime Blues Cosplay Photo Contest on Facebook, and…

  • BEST PHOTO
The top prize goes to the photo with the most likes.
  • FUNNIEST PHOTO
For the pic that makes you laugh: to vote, type “FUNNIEST” in the comments.
  • BEST COSPLAY
For the most authentic and accurate cosplay: to vote, type “BEST COSPLAY” in the comments.
  • MOST HELPFUL MONSTER
Help make sure nobody misses the opportunity to participate in the contest by tagging as many cosplayers as possible. The person who’s correctly tagged the most photos wins a prise package of their own.

Nominate as many photos as you want. The photos with the most votes in each category by 11:59pm central, Wednesday, June 26th win serious otaku street-cred as well as a Timid Monster Prize Pack.

We hope you had fun in our photo-booth; we had a blast meeting each of you, and look forward to seeing you again at the next con!

As Timid Monster’s social media… um… person, manager, whatever, it has been left to me to figure out how to best get our name out there and our films seen and I haven’t the first idea of how to do that. Here’s what I’ve managed to figure out. Basically there are rules to having a successful and effective online presence but there are no rules on how to do that. Does that make sense to you? Me neither.

For those of you that know me, this is a radical statement. I love, love, love Doctor Who! However, there is just something about this season that isn’t quite landing for me. Maybe it’s that I miss David Tennant. Maybe it’s because I miss the Ponds. Don’t get me wrong, I like Matt Smith a lot and Clara is pretty awesome, but there is just something about this season that isn’t doing it for me.

Ever watch a movie where a character dies and it devastates you so completely that it ruins the entire movie for you? It happens to me more than I’d like to admit. I mean, they’re just fictional characters, and fictional characters die every day. Nothing to get upset about, right?! Wrong! If you didn’t get at least a little misty at the deaths of the following 4 characters, then you have no soul. You might want to look into that. Continue Reading…

Ok, I want to begin this post with a disclaimer. I am not trying to offend the fans of My Little Pony or the men who call themselves Bronies. We all have our chosen fandoms, and I judge no one for their choices.

I mean, I’ve been known to visit the Twilight fandom on occasion so I have no place to fault anyone. This post is really about trying to understand what draws people, grown men specifically to My Little Pony. Continue Reading…

Have you ever gone to the theater to watch a movie and there is that one moment where everyone simultaneously has their minds blown? I love those moments. It’s so much fun to watch a film so amazing, or epic, or funny that you all experience that collective shock, fear, anger, or triumph at the same time. It’s sad that it is such a rare thing.

Here is my list of movies in no particular order that have given me that experience. These are moments that do not have the same effect at home as they do in the theater. You have to be there. It’s a moment that connects us as fans in perfect unison. They may not all be great movies but they gave me some of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had in a theater and for that, I thank them!

All right, so if you haven’t noticed, I am slightly fond of Doctor Who. And by slightly fond I mean completely obsessed. I stare at statues far longer than I should, you know… just in case. I also think my dishwasher sounds like the TARDIS is landing in my kitchen.

Okay, you get the point. So, with all this talk of Matt Smith becoming a big time Hollywood star and leaving the show I’ve been able to write about who I think should replace him and who it should be if they decide to go with a female Doctor so I thought I’d round out the series with who I think should not replace him. I’m talking about the worst possible choices here, people. Come, laugh with me.

Doctor Who: A Female?

Katie Baker —  February 25, 2013

So, I’ve been watching a lot of Doctor Who lately. I should say re-watching a lot of Doctor Who lately and it got me thinking as it often does. What if The Doctor regenerated into a woman? Would it still have the same appeal and who could play the part?

The Doctor is known as fearsome and funny, clever and mischievous; so I did some research on who I thought would be his female counterpart. I’m not entirely convinced a woman would have the same impact as Ten or Eleven but here are my top 4 picks for who could be the first female Doctor. In no particular order… Continue Reading…

Midsouthcon 2013

Katie Baker —  February 1, 2013

Midsouthcon (all one word) is almost here and I, for one am SUPER excited! It’s always a good time at this con. There will be a big Steam Punk presence at this years convention which is right up Timid Monster’s alley. I mean, have ya seen John Gray?! It’s gonna be feature film soon. I know, I’m excited too!
