Are you a wave or a particle? I recently read a description of quantum experiments in which an electron has been measured to determine if it functions as a wave or a particle. What they discovered is that when the electron is measured to deduce wave information, it functions as a wave with rippling effects.

When the electron is measured to determine if it reacts as a particle, it reacts as a particle. It is both particle and wave. The wave properties are not present however, when the particle measuring system is in place.

Oh, Facebook… Once upon a time, our favorite social-networking website was all about keeping up with out-of-state cousins and spying on people you wanted to date. Sometime in the last couple years, however, shameless self-promoters (such as myself) have turned the once colloquial community into a din of desperation.

But, so what? People can use Facebook however they want, right? Who am I to judge?

Here’s the problem:

Have you ever been introduced to a celebrity and found that there is a very thin line between being a fan and being a stalker? Well, I have. And I’m not really sure how it happened.

I’ve recently been introduced to the world of comic conventions where we have been going to promote our films, and I have gotten to know a lot of really interesting people there, most of whom are super awesome fans of the fantasy/science fiction world. So I am hoping that my experience will fall on understanding ears. Or maybe the world will forever think I’m insane.

Not sure which one… Continue Reading…

It’s interesting to me to study the statements individuals are making without talking. There are so many colors, textures and styles of clothes these days. Maybe I’m aware of this because I went to the thrift store today. I love looking through the vast array. Some people find it overwhelming. I tend to feel more overwhelmed when I go to the mall or store where there are many of the same items in different sizes. If I like it, they most likely have my size and that makes it an option. This is too overwhelming to me.

I digress; the purpose of this blog is to have some fun making assumptions about personalities based on wardrobe. Below are a few ways that I have categorized character traits. Maybe it fits, maybe not. Either way, be entertained and see if one of these profiles fits your mood today.

Are you what you wear? Continue Reading…

So, there’s this problem I have and no matter how aware of this problem I am, I still can’t seem to learn from it. I am always trying to force things to happen. Take this blog post. I have toiled for days trying to figure out what I can write that people will actually want to read.

I’ve tried to force it and still have no idea what to write, so I’ve decided to quit. I’m just going to start writing and see what happens. I have no idea what this post will be about so I guess we’ll find out together. Continue Reading…

Have you ever watched a film and felt a drive to do something more with your life? Something unexpected and completely out of the ordinary that would forever change your life and your outlook on the world? I think tons of people feel that way after watching epic movies in which the characters go on some kind of journey or adventure that tests them and reveals who they are at their very core.

So why not make that kind of experience a reality in your own life? Why not pick up and take an epic journey somewhere and just see what happens? I felt the same pull and drive to do just that, and somewhere inside me I found the courage to make it happen. These are some suggestions I would make to anyone wanting to take their own adventure. I was looking for a pair of flip-flops a while back. Most of them don’t fit my narrow feet. I thought, “why not make a pair?” So, I did. I bought one of those soft squishy floor mats, cut up a pair of tights, and made some cool shoes.

Sometimes we take ourselves far too seriously. I am resolving to dive into the ‘why not’s?’ and see what happens. What about you? What’s holding you back?

I was looking through our website stats the other day, and one of the incoming search terms caught my eye. Somebody actually Googled “reasons why you should not be a filmmaker.” I had to laugh; through all the difficulties and frustrations I’ve faced the past seven years, I’ve accumulated a pretty lengthily list of reasons.

In what will quite possibly be the easiest blog post I’ll ever write, here are 5 reasons why you should NOT become a filmmaker: Continue Reading…

Jim Allman, co-founder of Memphis arts community Continuum, joins us again this week for part II of How I’m Damned & What I’m Doing About It.

If you missed part I, it’s right here.

A Second Look

There are many who experience an identity that doesn’t easily reconcile and often appears at odds with itself. Take for instance the protagonist in Chaim Potok’s “My Name is Asher Lev”. An artist in an orthodox Jewish home overseen by a zealous, over bearing and un-approving father, Asher is also the pupil of an atheist painter. A damned identity, if I’ve ever seen one. People pleasing is the surest sign of selfishness.

I discovered this on my quest for freedom. “Can I be real honest with you?”… That preface should never need to be said. I may not tell you that your hair looks bad today; some things don’t need to be said, but some things don’t need to be assumed either. Continue Reading…
